Sudsy Input Needed

We are in the market for a new washer and dryer. Our new place does not have them and we have been debating going the used/Craigslist route or buying new.

So, lovely bloggy friends, HELP!

- What brand do you like?
- How big?
- Where to buy?
- Front or top loading?
- What bells and whistles are worth paying for and which can I go without?
- Is Energy Star worth it? Does the payout in the end really justify the hefty up front price tag?

Also, one set we are looking at is made by Amana. I have never heard of this particular brand before but consumer reports and customer reviews are rating them high. Anyone out there have any knowledge to impart?

I need some beauty in the land of laundry as this is the task I dread the most. Help me find some laundry lovin'!!

We just bought a new set a couple of months ago. We got them brand new b/c we want them to last as long as possible (my last pair was still working at 11 years old) and I do a lot of laundry, so it made sense to us not to get a used pair.

We got a front-loader washer and dryer from GE, and we did A LOT of research. The front loader washer uses 60% less water, and even though the cycle takes longer, the clothes dry in literally like 15 minutes (or less) b/c the spin is so fast on the washer and it gets all the water out. I have noticed a difference in my water and electric bill! We didn't get a fancy pair (no steam) but I have been so, so happy with mine. They make laundry fun!

A quick tip: a lot of the reviews complain about the smell of the washer (b/c of mildew), but we just leave the door slightly cracked and we've never had a problem with smell. I think those people just don't know how to prevent it so they blame the washer. I've found it easy and fun to use. I think the detergent (low-suds) may cost a teeny bit more, but not enough for me to notice, and you use so little anyway.

Can you tell I love to talk about my washer and dryer? E-mail me if you have any questions:) You can see my pair here:

  2. Well, as I am currently am dreaming about a new set myself, I can't give you any advice. Let us know what you decide!

Glad you posted that other little reminder on your old blog - I had forgotten to update you in my reader! :)

  3. i really like our front loaders. i don't know how important brands are, but the concept is great and easy and you'll love all the buttons! (so will jaron). if your washer and dryer are going to be out, i recommend finding some with a childlock button (if you hold a certain button down for 3 seconds, it locks the rest of the buttons and jaron will still think he's "helping").

hooray for new appliances! (or slightly used!)

Ok, I have a few things to say.

    1. So glad you are back! I love your blog!

    2. Good luck on the move. Are you settling somewhere long term?

    3. We have a front loading, HE3 Kenmore Elite. Ours are a couple of years old now, but I love them. In fact, I haven't used them in 9 months because the places we have been renting already had a set, but I notice a huge difference in our clothes. Ours washes better, the colors stay better, are much quieter and the HE thing is nice for the water and soap it saves. My advice: Get the stands that you have to buy extra... we have them and I am really glad we got them. It is much easier on the back. Also, DO get the sanitize mode if it comes with that option. We didn't and I can't tell you how often I wish that we did.

    4. Wanna Skype?
